New Play Development Workshop

New play development workshops help playwrights refine their work before rehearsals and productions—an essential yet often overlooked stage in Taiwan’s theatre-making process. Recognizing that Taiwanese playwrights lack the time and space to explore ideas or reframe stories, we designed these workshops as collaborative environments where writers can test concepts, receive feedback, and further develop their plays with the support of actors, directors, and dramaturgs. We hope our workshops serve as a stepping stone on the path toward full production.

We have guided numerous playwrights in bringing their works to a higher state of completion through these workshops. Notable examples include Chiao-Jung Chen’s The Thousand-Year Itch and Chen-Wei Kuo’s Mission Code: To Slay Goliath, both of which underwent continuous refinement and adjustment through our program following their award-winning debuts.

Our workshops operates through a combination of invitations and open applications, and is also available for commissions from theatre companies.

Writing a play is like going on safari. You may know the terrain, but without reflection, you risk circling the same path. Prologue’s workshops break that cycle. With support from fellow artists, playwrights can overcome creative blocks, avoid burnout, and refine what their plays are and what they can become.
