Beyond Taiwan:
Overseas Play Readings
Prologue has never stopped serving as a vital conduit between Taiwanese playwrights and the global stage, amplifying the island’s most compelling voices for an international audience. Our overseas play reading program, Beyond Taiwan, stands as a cornerstone of this mission. By presenting Taiwanese plays through staged readings in translation, we allow these stories to resonate within entirely different cultural contexts. Following each performance, we foster deep exchanges on creative philosophy and cultural nuance through post-show dialogues between playwrights and local audiences.
In 2025, we partnered with Chungbuk Theater Company to translate Cheng-Chun Lee’s Between Classes and Kuan-Ting Lin’s Long Live the Mango Tree into Korean. These works premiered at the Cheongju International New Play Festival before traveling to the RE:BOUND Festival at the Seoul Arts Center. That same year, Beyond Taiwan brought Chen-Wei Kuo’s Chronicle of Exile: Who Am I? to the Indonesia Dramatic Reading Festival. Translated and read in Indonesion, the play was a resounding success.
