International
Play Salon

The international play salon is a weekly book club where participants read and discuss plays from a wide range of cultural and societal contexts. It offers a valuable opportunity to explore diverse storytelling techniques and reflect on how plays are written and produced in Taiwan in dialogue with global theatre.

In 2024, the salon focused on Asian plays, featuring works from China, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. We also invited guest speakers from several of these regions to share insights into their theatrical landscapes.

In 2025, the spotlight shifts to American plays, with a focus on countries including Canada, the United States, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, and Brazil—just to name a few.

Our goal is to leave reading footprints across the globe within five years. Through this journey, we hope to inspire Taiwanese playwrights with new voices and visions, reenergizing and revitalizing the theatre scene on the island.

Cheng-Chun Lee (Winner of the 2024 Taipei Literature Award)

The International Play Salon has been truly inspiring. It offers the chance to see how culture and history shape the landscape of playwriting and to exchange ideas with fellow participants.
