Shen-Hao Yang
Born in 1990 in Taipei, Sheng-Hao Yang graduated from the Department of Economics at National Taiwan University before pursuing a career in theatre. He later earned his MFA in Film Production, specializing in directing, from the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU). Since 2025, Yang has been based in Taiwan, developing his creative practice across multiple disciplines.
Yang’s artistic scope is extensive. In his theatrical work, he is dedicated to adapting foreign classics to mirror and reflect contemporary Taiwanese society, as seen in his production The Cherry Orchard: Revisited (再見,櫻桃園). He also challenges the boundaries of modern theatre by experimenting with new media, such as in Stuck (卡關), where 3D laser lighting serves as the primary scenographic element.
In his cinematic works, Yang focuses his lens on marginalized characters, unspeakable desires, and the pervasive sense of alienation and loneliness in modern social interactions. His recent narrative strategy gravitates toward a parabolic style—one that embraces absurd and surreal elements while remaining firmly rooted within a realist framework.
