2024/25 Resident Artist
Lu-Chieh Lin
Lu-Chieh Lin, originally from Yilan, Taiwan, is the Artistic Director of Lu Production and an adjunct lecturer at the University of Taipei. Specializing in the use of magic as a medium for artistic creation and theatrical practice, Lin frequently presents his works in solo performances within contemporary theatre. His creations examine personal life experiences, intertwining narratives and illusion design to connect magic with everyday life, while challenging conventional perceptions of magic. He actively experiments with diverse formats of magic performance, incorporating it into street performances, theatre, non-traditional spaces, and visual media, exploring the extraordinary and uncanny within magic to evoke deeper meanings.
In addition to his creative work, Lin serves as a magic designer and consultant for various theatre productions, film projects, and arts education programs. He also leads actor training workshops focused on integrating magic into performance.
Lin holds a Master’s degree in Theatre from National Taiwan University. His works and research in the intersection of magic and theatre have garnered support from various institutions and funding programs, including the Cloud Gate Wanderer Project Fellowship, the National Theatre and Concert Hall (NTCH) Art Base Gap Year Fellowship, the NTCH Ideas Lab R&D Grant, and the Guling Street Avant-Garde Theatre Outstanding Production of the Year Award. His work was selected as the delegate of Taiwan Season at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe by the Taiwan Ministry of Culture.
